Andy is a six times winner of the UK Sports Photographer of the Year competition who has been documenting major sporting events across the globe and photographing many of the world’s greatest athletes for 20 years.
After studying photography at Salisbury Art College he pursued his passion for sport, rising to the position of chief sports photographer at The Daily Mail and Mail Online;
It has taken him on a creative journey that has enabled him to photograph David Beckham, Sir Chris Hoy, Johnny Wilkinson, Jamie Redknapp, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, Jessica Ennis, Chris Robshaw, Philip Lahm, Victoria Pendleton, Sir Ben Ainsley, Tom Daley, Hannah Cockroft, Rebecca Adlington, Dame Tanii Grey-Thompson, Sir Steve Redgrave, Dan Carter and AP McCoy, among many others.
But Andy’s reputation within the industry has also led to him being featured in BA High Life Magazine as well as a number of camera magazines around the world. It was also an honour for Andy to be commissioned by the Royal Mail to photograph the official ‘Welcome to the Olympic Games’ set of stamps and the official stamps for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
He is one of few photographers to have covered the last four Olympic Games, five FIFA World Cups and two Rugby World Cups. A career highlight was his photograph of Jonny Wilkinson kicking the drop goal that secured the Rugby World Cup for England against Australia in Sydney in 2003.
Andy’s first book, Capture the Moment, was the official 2012 Olympic book on how to photograph the London Olympics, Paralympics and Torch Relay. His second book is Farewell to Upton Park, the visual story of West Ham’s last season at Upton park. The National Lottery sponsored an exhibition of Andy’s work during the London Olympics and Paralympics. The exhibition was an installation in the Olympic Park which featured on the BBC during the Games.
His work has been consistently recognized by The Picture Editor’s Guild, The Sports Journalism Awards and The British Press Awards.
